Shred Dead guide: how to play

Updated 2026-11-03. Checked against public sources on that date.

ShredDead is a hover-to-shoot zombie incremental. Kill zombies for DNA, hire soldiers, and call a horde when you want the next unlock. The shredder at the bottom of the street catches leaks, and those kills do not pay DNA.

I stepped through Idle cub’s demo from the first upgrade. The gun starts at 10 damage and the first upgrade on that recording moves it to 14. A Steam comment (thread 587310751669080792) says aiming is hover, not click. The video picture matches that: the gun tracks the cursor.

First 30 minutes

  1. Raise machine-gun damage before you chase range. The only numbered step I can cite is 10 to 14 on Idle cub, 7 August 2026.
  2. Hire Rookies. They are the cheap pistol unit. Footage describes their damage as low, around 5, which is one video’s wording, not an official sheet.
  3. Upgrade zombies so each kill is worth more DNA. Idle cub shows the per-zombie value moving 6, then 10, then 13, then 14. CaptainCigar’s later video is a second view of zombie upgrades, not of those exact early numbers.
  4. Do not stand idle and let the shredder “farm.” Three recordings (Idle cub 02:03, CaptainCigar 06:32, and a short Japanese clip) agree the shredder drops nothing.

First two hours

Call the Horde

Public footage shows a horde encounter and a shredder-overload message. Steam lists five numbered wave achievements, with “Final Stand” for completing all five on the highest difficulty. This does not establish that the game has only five waves or that overload has a documented full-game consequence.

Mid game and the end

Spend DNA on crit, area, and range once the street is stable. A new DNA color shows up after the first boss wave in both CaptainCigar (19:47) and SergiuHellDragoonHQ (49:41). Prestige exists, and v1.0.1 changed how it starts: you now begin with 5 points instead of 1, several bonuses were buffed, and some costs were cut. A Steam thread mentions 15 prestige points, and a video mentions reincarnate. Nobody has published the formula. I am not going to invent one.
